Running Farther

Team Captain Melody Hazi

IMG_3834Melody may not have known it at the time, but her future as an adventure racer started growing up on homestead backing up to the Los Padres National Forest in California where she would go hiking with the family dogs and tracked local wildlife and went out with local surveyors looking for original BLM markers.  Melody found endurance sports after college when she ran the iconic Bay to Breakers in 2002.  A year later she ran her first marathon less then 4 months after the birth of her son Jonah, who she credits with keeping her grounded. 625646_10200286988873805_532636243_n Self coached Melody set a 3:17 marathon PR and then transitioned to long course triathlons looking for her next challenge and qualified for US Age Group Nationals her first year.  While she loved the competition of triathlons Melody eventually realized her passion was adventure, stepping into the unknown and seeing as much of the world as possible.  She entered Spartan Death Race (with average 15% finishers rate) in 2012 and was one of 5 female finishers.  She completed 2 more Death Races including winning Winter Death Race 2014.  Since Death Race Melody has run several ultras, was one of the finishers of the Inaugural 36 Hour Ultimate Suck, finished 1st mixed team and 3rd overall at the Inaugural Endeavor Team Challenge and competed on a team at the 2013 Crossfit NorCal Regionals.  Recently 259299_10150200584850846_436011_oMelody hiked solo in Israel and Jordan after TransArabia 300k was canceled due security concerns and competed in the Great Lakeland 3 Day in the UK.  Next up she is looking to be the second American finisher (1st female American finisher) of the legendary Dragon’s Back Race in Wales, which was named one of the worlds 10 toughest ultras by RedBull  When not stepping into the unknown Melody works as Director of Training and Education Services for an Enterprise Software startup CliQr in Silicon Valley California
